Mine Geotechnical Field Testing Services (In-situ Test)

November 24, 2025

PT Geo Labora Indonesia provides Mine Geotechnical Field Testing Services designed to obtain accurate in-situ geotechnical data as the basis for slope stability analysis, mine design, and geotechnical risk management. Field testing is a critical component in ensuring the safety of mining operations, understanding rock mass characteristics, assessing soil strength, and evaluating hydrogeological conditions that
influence the integrity of slopes and other geotechnical structures.

With experienced geotechnical specialists and industry-standard field equipment, PT Geo Labora Indonesia delivers field testing services that are fast, accurate, and technically and scientifically reliable.

The services provided by PT Geo Labora Indonesia include the following:

1. Cone Penetration Test (CPT & CPTu)

  • Measurement of soil penetration resistance
  • Identification of soil stratigraphy and bearing capacity
  • Pore pressure measurement (CPTu) for consolidation and saturation analysis

2. Standard Penetration Test (SPT)

  • Measurement of N-SPT values for soil strength characterization
  • Collection of disturbed and undisturbed soil samples
  • Data input for foundation, slope, and mine geotechnical design

3. In-situ Vane Shear Test

  • Determination of shear strength in soft clay
  • Commonly used in disposal areas, overburden (OB) dumps, and topsoil zones

4. Field Permeability Test (Falling Head / Pumping Test)

  • Determination of infiltration rate and hydraulic conductivity of soil or rock
  • Seepage analysis for slope and geotechnical stability assessment

5. Plate Load Test

  • Determination of soil bearing capacity for mining facility structures
  • Assessment of soil elastic modulus

6. Field Point Load Test (PLI) / Hammer Test

  • Determination of rock strength index for rock mass classification
  • Used for estimating rock UCS

7. Scanline Mapping & Face Mapping

  • Mapping of geological structures in mine slopes (joints, fractures, bedding planes)
  • Identification of weak plane orientations and potential failure mechanisms
  • Provides data for RMR, SMR, and GSI classification

8. Inclinometer & Extensometer Monitoring

  • Monitoring of mine slope deformation
  • Detection of soil/rock mass movement for early warning systems

9. Field Density Test (Sand Cone / Nuclear Gauge)

  • Measurement of density in OB dumps, topsoil, and mining construction materials
  • Quality control for embankment and fill construction

10. Borehole Geotechnical Testing

  • Geological and geotechnical logging
  • Collection of undisturbed samples (UDS)
  • Lugeon & Lefranc permeability testing
  • Hand boring
