Expert team PT Geo Labora Indonesia has established a distinguished track record in the field of mining geotechnical engineering, demonstrated through its involvement in the Geotechnical Study for Open-Pit Coal Mining at the operational site of PT Rimau Energy Mining, Paku District, Barito Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan. This project served as a key component of the implementation of Good Mining Practice, ensuring safe and compliant geotechnical management throughout the mining lifecycle. The engagement reflects the company’s strong dedication to supporting sustainable mining operations
through an engineering-based approach grounded in scientific rigor and technical precision.

The scope of work encompassed a comprehensive geotechnical investigation, beginning with surface geological mapping, structural geology identification, and measurement of actual slope geometry across the mining pits. This was followed by geotechnical drilling using the full-coring method at three locations (GT-01, GT-02, and GT-03) to obtain representative rock and soil samples and to collect subsurface geotechnical data—including lithology, Rock Quality Designation (RQD), core recovery, weathering levels, and groundwater conditions. All core samples were subsequently tested in accredited laboratories to determine physical and mechanical parameters required for further geotechnical modeling, including Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), Direct Shear, Point Load Index, and physical properties testing.

Building upon the results of field investigations and laboratory analyses, expert team PT Geo Labora Indonesia conducted comprehensive geotechnical modeling and slope stability analyses for the mining areas under actual, design, and redesign scenarios, covering highwall, lowwall, sidewall, and waste-dump slopes. The purpose of these analyses was to determine the safety factor of slopes and to develop an optimal slope design that meets both operational efficiency and safety standards. The analytical outcomes formed the basis for practical and safety-oriented geotechnical recommendations, including mining and waste-dump slope geometries designed to minimize the risk of slope failure while maintaining production continuity.

Through this project, expert team PT Geo Labora Indonesia successfully delivered significant value to the client by strengthening mining safety performance, improving geotechnical reliability across the mining zones, and ensuring full compliance with national mining geotechnical engineering standards and statutory requirements. The project reinforces the company’s expertise in providing integrated geotechnical services—including field investigation, laboratory testing, numerical modeling, and implementation-ready geotechnical design recommendations tailored for mining operations.
