The expert team of PT Geo Labora Indonesia has carried out previous work on the Geotechnical Study of High Dump Disposal for PT Wahana Baratama Mining (PT WBM) as part of an effort to ensure that disposal area development is performed safely, reliably, and in accordance with national geotechnical regulations. This study plays an essential role in supporting the implementation of Good Mining Practice, providing a technically and economically optimized disposal design to safeguard the continuity of mining operations.
The scope of work consisted of an integrated geotechnical investigation involving comprehensive acquisition of surface and subsurface data within the disposal area. Technical activities included geotechnical mapping, geological and geomorphological observations, characterization of fill and foundation materials, and sampling of rock and soil for laboratory testing. Laboratory analyses were performed to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the materials, which served as critical input parameters for numerical slope stability modeling.
Slope stability analysis was conducted through numerical simulations under multiple conditions, including existing conditions, planned design, and alternative improvement scenarios. Factor of safety assessments were carried out to evaluate both shallow and deep-seated failure potential, groundwater influence, dump geometry, and the underlying lithological characteristics. Based on the evaluation results, Team expert PT Geo Labora Indonesia developed technical recommendations for safe and efficient disposal geometry, including elevation configuration, slope angle, lift width, and strategies for foundation improvement and drainage control.
The recommendations were further supported by geotechnical risk-mitigation measures and monitoring guidelines to ensure safe operational implementation in the field. These strategies were designed to enhance long-term slope reliability and reduce the likelihood of failure during disposal activities, thereby maintaining operational safety and production continuity.
The successful completion of this study enabled PT Wahana Baratama Mining to improve operational safety performance, strengthen the reliability of long-term disposal design, and comply with national mining geotechnical standards. This assignment underscores PT Geo Labora Indonesia’s capability as a provider of integrated mining geotechnical services—covering field investigations, laboratory testing, numerical modeling, and engineering-based technical recommendations that are ready for direct application in mining operations.
